INSPIRATIONS
The natural world, music and my imagination inspire and fascinate me not only with my painting but in my life generally!
I find the challenge of painting the human body very rewarding & to me it is a form of discipline as well as being a pleasure.

I have models to help me create my female form pieces. I photograph them as this allows me to be more spontaneous as to when I actually paint. It is also much cheaper! I am also the subject in some of my female form creations although I can be quite shy at times, so my face is often obscured or it is usually a side or rear view! But I am working on this; this I feel is one of my next steps in my work, to have the balls, so to speak, to bare all, in the name of art, my art.

To me, being able to show all of myself is a step closer to accepting myself more and this acceptance may hopefully lessen any insecurities I have, which will hopefully lessen any complications that come with negative feelings……I don’t know, I am possibly talking utter S**T but I am sure there must be a tiny bit of sense in there!

NEW WORK
In my new series of figurative paintings, (in the new paintings section) the female form is more realistic in light and colour. My inspirations are from many sources including poetry, music, films and dance.
A photo shoot at The River Bollin in July 2005 is the inspiration to several paintings that I am currently working on

I’m trying to combine the female form with things that make me feel alive, free & give me pleasure; water, trees, Gothic atmospheres, Egyptian dance, my animals, my poetry, fire & wind; I want to portray ideas & images that emerge from the depths of my imagination, which can spring to life both when I am wide awake, sometimes rather unexpectedly & in my dreams at night. Bizarre visions that obviously have some meaning to me otherwise they would not be there, I want to try & make them come to life, out of the dream & into reality in my paintings.
I want this series of paintings to evoke feelings of passion, curiosity, beauty, excitement and eroticism for the viewer.

I greatly admire Pre- Raphaelite paintings and their creators, including Dante Gabriel Rosseti, John William Waterhouse and John Everett Millais.

MEDIUM
I work mainly on wood, in oils. I love the smoothness and a solid base. Several of my new works are painted on shaped wooden panels; wood allows that freedom in shape & is very robust and not likely to warp. I do sometimes paint on canvas.

MOTIVATIONS
For a start, I have 9 gorgeous animals to feed so that’s a big one!
I find painting relaxing, satisfying & a challenge. It’s a discipline too, and for me a bit of discipline is a good thing!
I know I am a perfectionist. I know my best is yet to come. Now I am exclusively concentrating on figurative paintings I can really push myself to improve my work in many ways; I can focus on practicing my techniques over & over and discover where I am actually going.
Music is also an excellent motivator and I love listening to and dancing to all types of music, Rock, Classical, Latin American, Egyptian, Thrash Metal and some Seventies stuff.
I frequently listen to music & have a good dance in my studio whilst I am painting, this really helps me stay motivated and inspired, especially late at night!
